Goliad Football Regional Final Preview

Posted: Updated:

Goliad football is about to make history. The Tigers have never before made it to the football regional finals. They are there now about their regional semifinal win. The Tigers rolled past Edna last week, 57-31, led by Logan Bland who ran for 212 yards and three touchdowns and also had a kick return for a touchdown from Bland to put Goliad ahead for good in the third.  I asked Goliad football head coach Bobby Nicholson for the reaction to the Tigers making history.
'It's exciting for the community and the players. It's exciting for us as coaches, but in the realm of things in the state high school playoffs, we as coaches and players really don't get to enjoy it from one round to the next. You enjoy it for a night and then Saturday and Sunday we were here working again. You don't get to enjoy it for very long. Our point all year all through the playoffs is just keep our head down and keep working."
Goliad football is off to its first 3A Division I regional final. The Tigers, riding an 11-game win streak, face another team who's won 11 straight, Yoakum, and it's a playoff rematch at Darrell K. Royal Memorial Stadium at UT-Austin Saturday night at 6:00. Goliad lost to the Bulldogs in the regional semifinals last year, 23-21.
