UHV Men's Soccer Makes National Poll

UHV men's soccer gets national recognition. The University of Houston-Victoria men’s soccer team finished the 2017 season receiving votes Tuesday in the latest NAIA Men’s Soccer Coaches’ Postseason Top 25 Poll.

It was the seventh straight week for the Jaguars to be recognized in the poll by receiving votes after their most successful campaign in the eight year history of the program.

It was the longest continuous run for the Jaguars to be recognized in the poll since a three-week run in the 2011 season. The Jaguars received 23 votes in the latest voting.

The Jaguars season included their first-ever trip to the NAIA Men’s Soccer National Championship Opening Round where they fell to then No. 8 Mobile (Ala.) 4-1 to finish the year at 11-3-2.

The Jaguars record a season-high nine shutouts in 13 games this season and also won their first-ever Red River Athletic Conference championship with a pair of 2-0 wins over Houston St. Thomas and LSU-Alexandria in the RRAC Tournament. The Jaguars also claimed the conference regular season title with a 7-1-2 record.

Wayland Baptist, a 1-0 winner over Missouri Valley in double overtime of the national championship game, finishes the year at No. 1, while Missouri Valley is No. 2. The rest of the top five includes Oklahoma Wesleyan (3), Marymount California (4) and William Carey (6).

Rounding out the top 10 were Mobile, Columbia (Mo.), Georgia Gwinnett, Lindsey Wilson (Ky.) and Baker (Kan.).
