Cuero Football Regional Finals Preview

Posted: Updated:

Revenge was on the minds of the Cuero football players last Friday night. That, and advancing in the 4A Division II playoffs.
Last year, Navarro ended the Gobblers' season in the regional final. This year, in the regional semifinals, the Mean Green returned the favor, jumping out to a 31-0 lead before hanging on for the 38-24 win, keeping Cuero unbeaten at 12-0. Quarterback Drew Riemenschneider, our Athlete Of The Week, ran for a touchdown and a two-pointer and connected with Jordan Whittington on two TD passes. Cuero football head coach Travis Reeve told me how much improvement he's seeing week by week as they climb the playoff ladder. "Just total overall execution of what we're doing. We're getting better at the little things and our defense continues to play well. Offensively we're continuing to play well and you have to play great in special teams, too. Our kids are playing well at the right time of year." Cuero football, back in the 4A Division II regional finals. The Gobblers will face Wimberley Friday night at 7:30 in Bastrop. This is a playoff rematch. The Mean Green beat Wimberley in the regional semis last year. A win would Cuero in the state semifinals for the first time in two years.
