Victoria Area Homeless Coalition opening warming shelter at local church

Posted: Updated:

The Victoria Area Homeless Coalition will open a warming shelter at the Central Church of Christ for anyone looking to for a warm place to stay. The church is located at 801 East Airline Road. Due to incoming freezing temperatures, which will be below 32 degrees in the coming days, the coalition will open the church as a shelter and will provide cots, clothes and other goods to keep residents warm and safe. The shelter will be open tomorrow and Thursday from six pm to 8 am. Coalition president Lisa Griffin says they have plenty of space and will not turn anyone who needs a warm place down.

While the shelter will not turn anyone away, the Victoria Area Homeless Coalition ask that guests treat each other and the facility with respect. The shelter will not require identification in order to enter.

Griffin says the shelter will remain open past Friday morning if freezing temperatures remain. The shelter is also accepting donations of winter coats. You can call Lisa Griffin at 361-935-14-51 for more details. Victoria Area Homeless Coalition will also provide up-to-date details at 361-575-7842 each time the shelter opens and will provide press release details to the local media and 211.
