Posted: Updated:

Bay City Police Officer Donna Guanajuato was working patrol in the 3100 block of Avenue F when she observed a maroon Chevrolet pickup traveling on the wrong side of the roadway on Saturday, December 2, 2017, at approximately 4:24 a.m. Officer Guanajuato activated her emergency lights to initiate a traffic stop, but the vehicle refused to stop. The vehicle continued reaching speeds of up to 20 miles per hour. It jumped the curb and drove through the parking lot of the First Baptist Church and then jumped another curb to reenter the roadway. The vehicle finally came to a stop in the 2200 block of 4th Street.

A felony stop was performed and contact was made with the driver, Jonathan L. Carrera, 22, from Bay City. It was determined he was under the influence of an alcoholic beverage. Officers located an open container in the vehicle Carrera was driving. Carrera was transported to the Matagorda County Jail where he was found to be in possession of cocaine. He was booked in for Evading Arrest With a Motor Vehicle, Possession of a Controlled Substance, Driving While Intoxicated With an Open Container, and Prohibited Substance in a Correctional Facility.
