Goliad Football Wins High Scoring Regional

Goliad football is on to the 3A Division I state quarterfinals. The Tigers downed Edna, 57-31. Goliad is now 11-1 and will face either Yoakum or Van Vleck. Edna finishes the season with an 8-5 record. First quarter, Goliad in white, Tigers score first when Rocky Morris hits Trevor Parr for the four-yard touchdown pass. The Tigers go for two with the swinging gate, Morris to Shaun Justice. Goliad out to an early 8-0 lead. Later in the first, Goliad with the ball again. Morris flushed out of the pocket, just slings it down the field, caught, Justice, in the end zone, 40 yard touchdown. Extra point missed, 14-0 Goliad. Second quarter now, and after a 20-yard run by Kenny Haynes, Racehorse Haynes will take it the final 15 yards for the score, cutting the Goliad lead down to 14-7. Tigers answer right back. Morris to Dontavian Clay, after a couple of moves, look out. After scoring last week on an 81-yard punt return and a 45-yard pick six, Big Play Clay takes this one 76 yards to put Goliad up 21-7.

4A Division II Regional
Cuero 38, Navarro 24. The Gobblers, now 12-0, will now face Wimberley in the state quarterfinals.
3A Division I Regional
Goliad 57, Edna 31 The Tigers, now 11-1, will now face either Yoakum or Van Vleck in the state quarterfinals.The Cowboys finish the season with an 8-5 record.
3A Division II Regonal
Lexington 58, Tidehaven 39. The Tigers finish the season with an 11-1 record.
2A Division I Regional
Refugio 70, Holland 29.  The Bobcats, now 11-1, will face Mason in the state quarterfinals.
2A Division II Regonal
Mason 40, Yorktown 7. The Wildcats end the season with an 8-5 record.

Big move by an area team in the state 3A poll. Goliad, up two spots to number two in the state after beating previously undefeated George West. Yoakum stays at number ten in the 3A poll. In the state 2A rankings, Shiner goes up a spot to number two. Refugio, moving up one to number five. 

    • East and West Volleyball Both Stumble in District Play

      Both VISD volleyball programs were in action Monday, with East hosting Corpus Christi Carroll at home, and West on the road at CC Veterans Memorial. Both teams struggled against tough opponents, with East falling in five sets and West in four. The loss for West marks the first district defeat for the Warriors this season.  Lexi Morris had a big game for the Warriors, recording 8 kills to go along with 25 digs.     • Calhoun Tops Autonoma de Nuevo Leon, 55-47

      The Calhoun Sandcrabs defeated Mexican high school Autonoma de Nuevo Leon in Port Lavaca on Saturday, 55-47. The win marks Calhoun's first on the season at Sandcrab Stadium, and levels their record on the young season at 1-1.
