TxDOT fights drunk driving with Plan While You Can campaign

Posted: Updated:

The Texas Department of Transportation is tackling the issue of drunk driving with their Plan While You Can campaign. According to TxDOT, the 2016 holiday season saw more than 2300 alcohol related traffic crashes in Texas, resulting in 82 fatalities and nearly 200 serious injuries. Drivers caught under the influence of alcohol could face up to $17,000 in fines and could lose their license. TxDOT PIO Cari Hensley asks everyone to make a plan before going out to drink.

"But just think about, before you go a head and have a couple of drinks, think about how you're going to get home safely. Because, we want everybody to have a safe and happy holiday season. And, we don't want any families to lose loved ones during this time period."

Hensley says if you plan on going out for drinks, designate a driver or call a cab to make sure you get home safe.
