Toys for Tots in Victoria trying to do more this year

Posted: Updated:

Since 1947 the  U.S. Marines have made Christmas wishes come true for children who are less fortunate.

Last year, 7200 children in the crossroads area received toys thanks to toys for tots.

This year Newscenter 25 is joining forces with Toys for Tots and HEB.

Organizers feel they have a more important mission than in years passed.

Marine Coloniel Mike Petrash is the Coordinator for Toys for Tots in Victoria County says, "This year we had Hurricane Harvey, and some people think the recovery is over and we are back to normal but we're not. There is going to be an increased number of children who might  wake up Christmas morning with nothing under the tree, and we're here to prevent that.

We'll stuff the truck at HEB Plus and HEB Rio Grande December 8th through the 10th

Meteorologist Jesse Kelley will be on hand to collect toys-- Friday December 8th.

If you are looking to donate toys, there are donation boxes around town in most businesses including HEB, Walmart and Target.
