STJ Volleyball Honors & Girls Basketball Update

St. Joe girls basketball is off to a 3-3 start. The Lady Flyers start play in the Industrial tournament Thursday at 9:00 a.m. vs. Bishop. More big honors for a St. Joe volleyball sophomore. Savannah Wharton, getting second team All-State honors, and she was named the Lady Flyer Most Valuable Player at their award banquet. Wharton also earned first team All-District honors along with teammates Kacie Knippa, Katherine Terry, Madison Korinek, and Taylor Foeh. For St. Joe, Knippa was named Defensive Player Of Year, Terry got the Fighting Heart award, Korinek and Foeh shared Newcomer Of The Year Honors, and the Christian Character award  went to Gabbie Rodriguez.

MVP - Savannah Wharton

Defensive Player of the Year - Kaci Knippa

Christian Character - Gabby Rodriguez

co-Newcomer of the Year - Taylor Foeh

co-Newcomer of the Year - Madison Korinek

Lady Flyers receiving second team All-District honors were Mikah Sloan, Sarah Rosas, Gabby Rodriguez and Kyleigh Nethery. St. Joe's Rachel Ward received honorable mention.  On Halloween, the Lady Flyers lost in the Area round of the playoffs to S.A. Cornerstone, 25-23, 25-20, 25-22. In that loss, Sloan had seven kills as did Foeh, and Terry had six kills. Korinek had 18 assists, and Wharton had two blocks and three kills. St. Joe ended the season with a 25-9 record, which included a win over eventual State 3A champion Goliad.
