Health Care Enrollment Up by 52% in Texas

More people have signed up for health coverage at HealthCare.gov this year than ever before - nearly 2.7 million nationally. What’s more impressive is that in Texas, 334,328 have signed up for coverage – a 52 percent increase from a similar point last year.

“Such a strong start to open enrollment shows just how much people want health insurance and that they’re finding coverage they can afford when they visit HealthCare.gov,” said Lori Lodes, co-founder of Get America Covered. “But there’s not much time left to sign up for coverage. We need to do everything we can to make sure people know that the last chance for people to enroll for health coverage with financial help at HealthCare.gov is December 15.”

Facts about Open Enrollment in Texas:

  1. Since Open Enrollment started November 1, 334,328 Texans have selected a plan through HealthCare.gov, with total sign-ups in Texas up by 52% from last year.
  2. Because of financial help, plans for 2018 are more affordable than ever before. 8 out of 10 people in Texas who enrolled can find plans for $75 or less a month in premiums after tax credits.
  3. Free confidential enrollment help is available if people in Texas have questions or want to talk through their options with a trained professional.

About Open Enrollment at HealthCare.gov:

Open Enrollment for 2018 health coverage at HealthCare.gov ends December 15, 2017. If someone needs coverage for 2018, December 15 is their last chance to get covered or risk paying a $695 penalty or more for not having health insurance.  Plans and prices change every year, so people should visit HealthCare.gov or CuidadodeSalud.gov to learn about their plan options and how much financial help is available to lower their monthly premiums.

    A death row inmate who was part of the notorious "Texas 7" gang of escaped prisoners has received an execution date for late this summer. The Texas Department of Criminal Justice says they've received documents setting 45-year-old Joseph Garcia for lethal injection August 30th. On Christmas Eve 2000, Garcia and six co-defendants fatally shot a 31-year-old police officer while on escape from the Connally Unit. To learn more click here.
