UHV Softball Releases 2018 Schedule

Posted: Updated:

UHV softball team will have little time to prepare before opening Red River Athletic Conference play in the 2018 season.

In releasing their 2018 schedule today, head coach Lindsey Ortiz and the Jaguars will compete in two tournaments before opening RRAC play on Friday, February 16-17 at Huston-Tillotson.

The Jaguars begin the season at the Galveston Tournament on Feb. 2-3 where they will play five exhibition games against junior college opponents. The team then travels to Fort Worth on Feb. 9-10 for the Cowtown Classic, before visiting Huston-Tillotson for its conference openers.

Following their conference opener series, the Jaguars will travel to Schreiner for a doubleheader on Feb. 22 and take part in the Gulf Shores Tournament on March 2-4 before turning their attention back to conference play.

Following the Gulf Shore Tournament, the Jaguars’ schedule will include mostly RRAC play with only two non-conference matchups on the schedule the rest of the way.

The Jaguars will face defending national champion Oklahoma City in a doubleheader on March 13 in Farmers Branch and take on Division II for Concordia-Texas in a pair of game on April 3.

The rest of the schedule has UHV hosting Texas A&M-Texarkana on March 9-10, Texas College on March 27-28, LSU-Alexandria on April 6-7 and the University of the Southwest on April 20-21. The Jaguars will have road games at Langston on March 23-24, Jarvis Christian on April 13-14 and Our Lady of the Lake on April 27-28.

The Jaguars lost to LSUA 2-0 in the RRAC championship game last year and ended the season with a 33-19 record. The Jaguars have won 30-plus games in nine of their 10 seasons and have made the postseason every year.
