The Victoria County Commissioner's Court announced the approval of a contract with Kofile Technologies to preserve historical documents.

Victoria County and Kofile Technologies have started work on preserving and archiving county historical documents, which include county documents and marriage licenses among others. The County Clerk's Office has been working with Kofile and say they hope to preserve or restore county documents, with some documents going as far back as 1836. The office says they have funded the project using a small five dollar fee associated with certain County Clerk Services and anticipate no change to that fee in the future. County Judge Ben Zeller remarked he understands the importance of maintaining and preserving these documents.

"It's of overwhelming importance to preserve the history and the documents that we have in Victoria County. A lot of counties have rich history. Victoria County is no exception and it's our responsibility to see to it those records are preserved for future generations."

The County Clerk's Office says there are hundreds of Volumes of documents to sift through, with many showing signs of damage or heavy deterioration. Because of this, Kofile Technologies will be working carefully to restore these documents, taking additional time. Judge Zeller added that the project is in it's first phase and could take years before the project is fully completed.
