Goliad ISD Harvey Damages Almost Half A Million Dollars

Posted: Updated:
Goliad ISD is facing up to half a million dollars in damages after Harvey.
While no classrooms were displaced, several buildings are still being repaired months after the hurricane.
Superintendent Dave Plymale believes the total cost of damages is between $400,000 and $500,000.  Out of the three schools in the district, the high school had the most damage.
The high school auditorium already had their roof fixed, and the stage will be replaced. The high school gym floor boards had excessive water damage, leaving the school no other choice but to close the gym.
P.E. classes have been moved to the event center next door.  Basketball practices have also been moved to other school gyms.
Plymale says the elementary and middle school only had minor damage.
The district is working with FEMA for relief, and just received a project  manager to look at recovery.
Plymale hopes to have the gym repaired by January.
