Farmer Association provides Harvey disaster assistance

Posted: Updated:

Texas Organic Farmers & Gardeners Association is coordinating Farm Aid Family Farmer Disaster Relief Fund for those affected by Hurricane Harvey

Family farmers in Texas can now access much-needed relief following Hurricane Harvey. Farm Aid has partnered with the Texas Organic Farmers and Gardeners Association (TOFGA) to distribute emergency relief grants to help farmers meet household expenses. Families who rely on farming for their income, live in the declared disaster areas, and are experiencing hardship as a result of the storm are encouraged to complete an application, even if other relief such as crop insurance or FEMA funds have been made available.

There is no deadline to apply, although applications are reviewed as they are received and there is a finite amount of funding available. Applications will be reviewed by a team of TOFGA board members and other agricultural professionals. Approval is based on the applicant qualifying as a family farm and demonstrating economic loss.

Applications are available online here. Applications can also be completed by phone. Email harvey@tofga.org or call (512) 413-7774 to set up a phone interview.

Digital applications can be downloaded here http://bit.ly/2gYs8pB, and then emailed to harvey@tofga.org or printed and mailed to

    • ABC's The Note: Democrats can revel in Doug Jones’ win, but more battles loom

Yes, they (still) can. But it won't always be this easy, and this was pretty hard at that. Democrats have every reason to celebrate their victory in Alabama. They can revel in storylines about new coalitions in red-state America, and about Republican dissensions and governing difficulties. But their true battles have barely begun.

    • Take precautions when taking your kids to visit Santa

A visit to Santa should be fun for everyone involved, not just mom and dad. But if it's your child's first ever visit to see Santa, it's a good idea to proceed with some caution. Have an idea ahead of time whether your child is really interested in seeing Santa up close and in person - or perhaps just from afar. If your child is old enough to be able to speak with you, ask them what they'd like to do - that way you can help manage their expectations. We spend a lot of time warning...
