UHV Men's Soccer Gets National Ranking

Posted: Updated:

A pleasant surprise for UHV men's soccer. After having their season delayed and then getting off to a strong start, UHV men's soccer is in the NAIA Men's Soccer Coaches' Top 25 Poll for the first time since the 2015 season.

The Jaguars (4-1, 3-0 in RRAC) were one of two Red River Athletic Conference teams receiving votes in this week's poll. The Jaguars garnered 23 votes, while LSU-Alexandria received 5.

It is the seventh time in school history for the Jaguars, who have never broken into the top 25, to receive votes in the coaches' poll. The Jaguars received votes in Week 4 and 5 of the 2015 season, in Week 3 of the 2013 season and in weeks 6, 7 and 8 of the 2011 season.

William Carey (Miss.) received 16 first-place votes to remain as the number on team in the nation with 497 points in the voting. Missouri Valley, which received two first-place votes, stayed at No. 2 with 483 points, while the rest of the top five remained unchanged as well.

Rio Grande (Ohio) remains at No. 3, and is followed by Oklahoma Wesleyan at No. 4 and Corban (Ore.) at No. 5.

The Jaguars, after having their first three home games cancelled due to Hurricane Harvey, will host their home opener on Thursday against Paul Quinn in a 3:30 p.m. non-conference match at The Cage. The women face Paul Quinn prior to the men's game at 1 p.m.
