The Cuero football team ran onto the field at Gobbler Stadium with a sign that read "Cuero Strong." It was the Gobblers' first game of the season Friday night, after Hurricane Harvey left DeWitt County destroyed. Cuero kicked off its season with a 108-year-old rivalry, taking on Yoakum.
Despite a back-and-forth first quarter, Cuero pulled ahead and never looked back, beating Yoakum, 41-13.
Next Friday, Cuero heads on the road to take on Floresville, while Yoakum plays at Taylor.
