High speed chase ends in DeWitt County, ongoing police standoff

Posted: Updated:

UPDATE: After leading law enforcement officials on a chase through Dewitt County, a male suspect, who neighbors are referring to as Joseph, is currently barricaded inside his home.

After the chase, the suspect apparently fired shots from an assault rifle, though no one was hit.

He then fled into a house with his girlfriend inside. She was later released unharmed.

Dewitt County Sheriff Carl Bowen says the situation is "50% over."

The Dewitt County Sheriff's Department, Victoria County Sheriff's Department, and DPS, among others, are currently assisting with the investigation.

Preliminary reports of a law enforcement chase along on Highway 87 headed to Cuero around 3 p.m. Tuesday.

We're monitoring scanner traffic of the situation: A black pickup truck was going 95 mph down Highway 87. The person inside the truck has an assault rifle. A shots fire call was issued over the scanner at 3:30 p.m.

We reached out to Dewitt County Sheriff Carl Bowen who tells us he's monitoring the situation.

This is an ongoing situation. We will keep you updated as more information is released.
