Monday marked 235 days since Yoakum football played in the 3A state championship, but lost to Mineola. That means 235 days with that weighing on their minds. However, their first preseason practice marked a clean slate for the Bulldogs, and a chance to turn that frustration into motivation.
Not only are the Yoakum Bulldogs returning with that desire, they're also returning the talent to back it. Yoakum is bringing back nine starters on both sides of the ball this season. Most notably, the wide receiver-defensive back duo in twins Joshua and Jordan Moore, and one of the top 3A linemen in the state, Silas Robinson.
At quarterback though, there's some newfound competition. The returner, Holden Lauer, got injured and had to sit out last season. Now healthy, he'll be competing against a new face, Hagen Garvin, who transferred to Yoakum this year. Head Coach Bo Robinson says the starting spot is up for grabs.
The Bulldogs' first scrimmage will take place in Yoakum against Gonzales on Friday, August 18.
