More Victoria swimmers qualify for state at regionals

Victoria hosted the final day of the TAAF Region 16 swim championships on Sunday at the VISD Aquatics Center. Swimmers that are 11 years old and older went up against the best in the South Texas region today, with more than 200 swimmers competing.

For Victoria, 12 relay teams qualified for state by placing in the top three of their event. Four of those groups took first place, including the Girls 11-12 200-meter freestyle relay, Girls 13-14 200-meter freestyle relay, the Women 18 & Over 200-meter freestyle relay, and the Women 18 & Over 200-meter medley relay.

In the individual events, 18 Victoria swimmers are headed to state, with many qualifying in multiple events. Also, 18 gold medals were won by Victoria swimmers on the second day of the meet. For the girls, Kate Lynn Pratka, Cristina Cervantes, Callie Edmonds and Jessie Schumacher all earned three gold medals each. For the boys and men, Townes Van Gundy, Ean Palmquist and Brandon Palmer ended the day with first-place finishes.

The state meet will be July 29-30 in Edinburg, Texas.
