Pets have very different needs before during and after a storm. We talked with Victoria Animal Hospital Medical Director Randy Froehlich. He recommends preparing a plastic bag with all of your pets information.
Microchip ID number, vaccination records and needed medication with instructions should all travel with your pet during an evacuation. You should have a two to three day supply of food and water for your pet.
If you're asked to evacuate, make sure your pet is comfortable in a crate.
"Each pet needs a crate that they are comfortable with, that they are comfortable staying in. You want to get them accustomed to that ahead of time," said Froehlich.
After the storm, you want to be very careful bringing your pet home to unsafe conditions. You should not expose your pets to an environment that may have shattered glass, power lines down, and contaminated water.
