The Victoria Police Department revealed their brand new motorcycle unit after a 10 year hiatus.
VPD Motor Patrol Unit is funded by the Victoria 100 Club, an organization that supports law enforcement and public safety needs. The organizations helps local first responders including the sheriff's office and fire department.
The Motor Patrol Program will kick off with a brand new Harley Davidson motorcycle, and Officer Branden Allen on patrol.
Police Chief JJ Craig says this is the type of program that saves lives.
"This is a program will definitely help save lives because these officers are going to be focused in on problems areas in the city where we have vehicular problems and they're going to be proactively engaged in those efforts so this is going to be something I think we'll see among time will be a definite benefit to the organization and to the city," said Craig.
VPD plans to add a second motor unit to the program within the next two months.
