VC receives $269,477 grant from Texas Workforce Commission

Posted: Updated:

Victoria College was one of 10 community and technical colleges to receive grants from the Texas Workforce Commission to support high-demand occupations through the Jobs and Education for Texans (JET) grant program.

Victoria College received a grant for $269,477 to purchase and install equipment to provide 130 students with training for electrical and electronics engineering professions.

“Victoria College is thrilled to be selected as a recipient and thanks the Texas Workforce Commission and the Jobs and Education for Texans advisory board for this generous grant that will help VC continue to train its students to meet the demands of the workforce in the Crossroads region,” said Victoria College President Dr. David Hinds.

“I congratulate these JET grant recipients as they work to enhance educational curriculum and high-demand job training for students in our high schools and community colleges,” said TWC Chairman Andres Alcantar. “Through innovative partnerships between employers and educators, Texas students will have the education and skills to succeed in the workplace.”

A total of 26 grants totaling $5 million were awarded to community and technical colleges and independent school districts throughout the state.

The JET program provides funding for equipment to eligible educational institutions for the purpose of developing career and technical education courses and may include courses offering dual-credit and technical education programs. The equipment must be used to train students for jobs in high-demand occupations.

"We will purchase six level/flow process control trainers to teach instrumentation students the basics of process control," said VC Electronics/Instrumentation Curriculum Coordinator Don McLain. "The control trainers will allow students to learn to calibrate, adjust, install, operate and connect process control systems in industrial applications."
