UHV Softball Loses At Conference TourneyPosted: Updated:
UHV softball loses at its conference tourney. Haley Beam was nearly perfect through five innings, but things fell apart for Beam and the University of Houston-Victoria Jaguars as the LSU-Alexandria Generals used a six-run sixth to advance to Sunday’s championship game in the Red River Athletic Conference Softball Tournament at Oran Good Park with a 6-2 win over the Jaguars.
The Jaguars (32-18) drop to an 11 a.m. elimination game on Sunday and will face the winner of the Our Lady of the Lake and Langston elimination game from Saturday night.
LSUA (45-8) will meet the winner of Sunday morning’s elimination game in the championship game at 1:30 p.m. A second championship game if needed is set for 3:30 p.m.
Beam saw her perfect game disappear in the top of the fifth with a leadoff double by Dani Billings. But Beam left the runner stranded by retiring the next three batters she faced.
Things then fell apart in the sixth for Beam following a leadoff solo home run by Kaitlyn Eaves. Gabbie Andreport would add a one-out solo shot and it was the spark the Generals would need. The Generals would go on and tallied four more runs by sending 11 batters to the plate.
The Jaguars didn’t go down without a fight.
Getting a least one runner on base in every inning to Jaguars broke up the shutout in the seventh.
Savannah Crittenden singled to left with one out. Michelle Revels then doubled pinch-runner Alyssa Dial to third with two outs and Aubri Hockenbury would walk to load the bases. Beam then slashed a single to center scoring Dial and Revels, before the Generals were able to finish off the win on a ground out.
