UHV Softball's Conference Tourney Bracket

UHV will meet the winner of the Huston-Tillotson and Langston University game on opening day of the Red River Conference Softball Championships.

The bracket for the postseason tournament was released with LSU-Alexandria and UHV as the top two seeds for the tournament to be played at Oran Good Park in Farmers Branch beginning Friday.

Fourth-seeded Our Lady of the Lake will face fifth-seeded University of the Southwest in the tournament opener at 11 a.m. on Friday, with No. 3-seed Huston-Tillotson facing No. 6-seed Langston in a 1:30 p.m. game.

LSUA will face the OLLU-Southwest winner at 4 p.m., with UHV taking on the HTU-Langston winner in the final game of the day at 6:30 p.m.

Play resumes Saturday with four more games on tap and concludes Sunday with the championship games scheduled for 1:30 p.m.

The Jaguars are 31-17 on the season and finished as the RRAC runner-up with 22-6 mark.

The Jaguars will bring a .308 team batting average into the tournament, along with a 259-128 scoring advantage over their opponents this season.

UHV went 3-1 against HTU during the regular season and swept the four-game series with Langston.

Aubri Hockenbury and Gabby Davila have been the main two guns for the Jaguars offensively as Hockenbury leads the team with a .393 batting average, 15 home runs, 52 RBI, 114 total bases and a .786 slugging percentage.

Davila follows Hockenbury with a .365 average and leads the team with four triples, 17 stolen bases and an on-base percentage of .471.

Haley Beam (11-5), Kelsey Tidrick (6-1) and Michelle Revels (9-9) have been a force in the circle for the Jaguars. The pitching staff has compiled a 1.99 ERA and has allowed 129 runs on 294 hits and 94 walks, while striking out 187 in 316.2 innings.

      Goliad volleyball will play for the state 3A crown for the third straight year. The Tigerettes beat Boyd in the 3A state semifinal Thursday in Garland in five sets, with Goliad taking the deciding set, 15-11. The Tigerettes will now play for the state title against either Callisburg or East Bernard Saturday at 11:00 a.m. at Curtis Culwell Center in Garland. Goliad was state runnerup in 2015, then won its first state volleyball title last year.
