New York, NY (Sports Network) - St. Louis Blues right wing Vladimir Tarasenko has been named the NHL's top rookie for the month of January.

Tarasenko led all rookies in scoring with nine points, tallying five goals and four assists in seven games. He had a stirring start to his NHL career, scoring goals on each of his first two shots in a 6-0 win over Detroit to open the season.

The 21-year-old Russian native, who was selected with the 16th overall pick of the 2010 draft, added a goal and two assists in his next game and became the first Blues player since Wayne Babych in 1978-79 to post five points in his first two games. He closed the month with a four-game point streak.

Others considered for the honor were Tampa Bay's Cory Conacher, Edmonton's Nail Yakupov and Justin Schultz, and Montreal's Alex Galchenyuk.
