East Rutherford, NJ (Sports Network) - The New York Giants released linebacker Michael Boley on Tuesday.

Boley played in all 16 games (11 starts) for New York in 2012, recording 92 tackles and three interceptions.

The 30-year-old Boley joined the Giants as a free agent in 2009 after spending his first four NFL seasons with the Atlanta Falcons. In 57 games (50 starts) with the Giants, Boley had 355 tackles, 3 1/2 sacks and three interceptions.

"Michael Boley was brought here as a fast, athletic, versatile linebacker," Giants coach Tom Coughlin said. "We recognized his special skills were in coverage. He's a smart player who made some big plays for us. He was an integral part of our Super Bowl XLVI championship team. Michael played outstanding football down the stretch for us that season."

In 121 career games (102 starts) with the Falcons and Giants, Boley has 685 tackles, 9 1/2 sacks and eight interceptions.

"Michael came in and learned our defense quickly and he added speed, coupled with big play ability, to our defensive unit," Giants general manager Jerry Reese said. "He also played an important role in helping us win Super Bowl XLVI. I wish him well as he moves forward in his career."
