Claudia Saucedo scored two goals and had two assists to help lead the 9th-ranked William Carey Lady Crusaders to an 8-1 win over the University of Houston-Victoria Jaguars on Friday.
The eight goals tied a UHV record set last season when the Jaguars fell 8-0 to St. Mary’s University.
The Lady Crusaders opened up a 3-0 halftime lead and dominated the second half with a 5-1 goal edge after out shooting the Jaguars 16-4 in the final 45 minutes. WCU held a 24-4 shot edge, includ9ing a 14-3 advantage in shots on goal.
UHV’s first shot came in the 58th minute when Emily Lupton’s shot sailed wide. The Jaguars first big scoring opportunities came in the 68th and 69th minutes but shots by Caroline Carvajal and Sheilat Akapo were turned back on saves by WCU’s Natalie Saunders.
Jennifer Olle finally broke up the shutout in the 81st minute scoring off an assist from Megan Huerta to cut the Lady Crusaders’ lead to 6-1.
WCU would add another goal in the 85th minute and finished off the scoring as time expired.
