Even after having to play shorthanded, the University of Houston-Victoria women's soccer team fought valiantly to the end Saturday only to see their home winning streak snapped in a 1-0 loss to the Our Lady of the Lake Saints at The Cage.
After the Jaguars lost a player to a red card in the 22nd minute the Saints took advantage of the ensuing free kick with Stephanie Diaz tapping home a rebound shot off a save by UHV goalkeeper Samantha Wooster for the lone goal of the game.
The Jaguars dropped to 5-6 on the season, while the Saints improved to 9-1-1 with their sixth straight win.
The Saints outshot the Jaguars 15-8, including a 12-4 edge in shots on goal to snap the Jaguars four-game home winning streak.
Sheilat Akapo led the Jaguars with three shots, while Nereyda Martinez had two Wooster finished with 11 saves to tie a UHV single-game records for saves in a game by a goalkeeper.
The Jaguars will return to action on Oct, 12 when they host the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor in a 2 p.m. match at The Cage.
