Three University of Houston-Victoria student-athletes
were named Wednesday as 2014 Daktronics-NAIA Softball Scholar Athletes.
The three were among the 297 student-athletes were
recognized for the award from across the country.
Among those honored from UHV were seniors Alicia Fikac
and Ashley Winegeart and junior Isabella Soto. It was the second straight year
for Fikac and Winegeart to receive the honor. Fikac was a pitcher for the
Jaguars, while Winegeart played shortstop and Soto right field.
In order to be nominated by
an institution’s head coach or sports information director, a student-athlete
must maintain a minimum grade point average of 3.5 on a 4.0 scale and must have
achieved a junior academic status.
