The University of Houston-Victoria soccer program has
announced the signing of four student-athletes to its women’s team for the Fall
of 2013.

Among the signees are University of the Southwest
transfer Raven Lawrence, and incoming freshmen Desiree Guerrero, Stephanie
Valdez and Katia Trevino.

“The 2013 recruiting class is a strong class that is a
clear indication of the amount of work put into it by the entire coaching
staff,” UHV soccer coach Adrian Rigby said. “We are excited about the upcoming
year and are eagerly looking forward to the preseason.”

Desiree
Guerrero, Fr. Defender, McKinney

Johnson is a senior defender at McKinney High School
where she has earned honors as Most Improved, Defensive MCP and Newcomer of the
Year. She has also been named to the AB honor roll and the B honor roll at
McKinney. She has played club ball for the Longhorns, Blackwatch SC, TFC, Solar
and is currently a member of the Andromeda FC 95’ girls Red team.

She plans to study athletic training in college.

“I want to attend UHV because of the academic and
athletic opportunities,” Guerrero said.

Rigby on Guerrero: “Desi is an athletic outside back who possesses the
ability to get forward in our system of play. She is technically very sound and
has tons of confidence in her ability as an outside back. With her pace and
ability to beat her opponents on the dribble she will become a strong attacking
threat on the flank.”

Raven
Lawrence, So. Midfielder/Forward, San Antonio

Lawrence played soccer for Brennan and Taft High Schools
and attended the University of the Southwest. She served a captain of her JV
soccer team (2009-2010), co-captain of her club soccer team (2009-10,,
2010-11),, co-captain of her varsity soccer team (2010-11, 2011-12), was named
Offensive MVP (2010-12), selected first team all-district (2010-11 and 2011-12)
and Discount Tire’s ‘Scholar Athlete of the Week’ (2011). During her freshman
season at Southwest, she had four assists and took nine shots including eight
shots on goal in 13 games for the Mustangs.

She has also excelled in the classroom where she earned
academic excellence (2010-11; 2011-12), academic achievement in English,
Mathematics and Graphic Design (2010-11; 2011-12), Most Distinguished
Principal’s Award and Perfect Attendance (2010-11). She was a QuestBridge
Scholar Finalist, was named to the University of the Southwest President’s
Honor Roll with a4.0 GPA and was a Northwest Vista College Ambassador.

She plans to major in communications at UHV.

“UHV offers great opportunities,” Lawrence said. “Its
location is surrounded by the state’s largest cities, however the city has a
unique feel to it. Here I’ll be able to pursue the things that I enjoy and grow
as a student, athlete and an individual.”

Rigby on Lawrence: “Raven is an athletic attacking player that can play
as an attacking mid or forward. We are excited to have Raven transfer with a
year of NAIA soccer under her belt as she will bring some experience and
leadership to the team. Raven will contribute to our strong attacking style in
2013.”

Stephanie Valdes, Fr. Midfielder, Houston

Valdes is a senior midfielder for the Milby Lady Buffs
where she has found much success on the soccer field. Her teams were state
champs in 2011 and 2012 and regional champs in 2011. She served as team captain
in 2012 and serves in that capacity again this season. She was first team
all-district as a junior, second team all-district as a sophomore and third
team all-district as a freshman.

She has been a member of Aldine United club team for two
years and Albion Hurricanes FC for the past five years where she advanced to
the National Cup in 2011.

She plans to major in speech language pathology while at
UHV.

“I’ve always been close to my family and I would think it
would be hard to live without them, but with the UHV Jaguars I feel like I’ll
still be with a great family,” said Valdes on signing with the Jaguars. “UHV is
close to home and most important convenient financially.”

Rigby on
Valdes:
Stephanie is a player we have had
our eye on for a while throughout our recruiting cycle and has impressed each
member of the coaching staff. She possesses an excellent attacking mind which
will create havoc for opponents. We will be looking for Stephanie to come in an
challenge for a starting spot in the midfield.”

Katia
Trevino, Fr. Forward, xxxx

Lawrence played soccer for Brennan and Taft High Schools
and attended the University of the Southwest. She served a captain of her JV
soccer team (2009-2010), co-captain of her club soccer team (2009-10).

Rigby on
Trevino:
Katia is a
composed forward who can put the ball in the back of the net. We are very
impressed with her ability when she attended our open tryouts and then even
more impressed when we saw her play with her club team. The coaching staff is
looking forward to Katia in the Fall.

The signings bring to 10 the number of players the
Jaguars have signed for the 2013 fall class.
