Mohamed Degheb scored two second-half goals Friday to help lead the William Carey Crusaders to a 3-2 season-opening win over the University of Houston-Victoria men’s soccer team.
Degheb broke a 1-1 tie with back0to0back goals in the 50th and 59th minutes to spark the win for the Crusaders.
After Romello Russell-Supreme put the Crusaders up 1-0 with a goal in the 27th minute the Jaguars tied the game off a goal from Jack Pluckwell in the 36th minute. Hector Gonzalez and Kyle Davison-Gordon were credit with assists on the goal.
The Jaguars pulled back to within a goal in the 79th minute when Reece Hannigan nailed a shot off an assist by Hector Ramirez.
The Jaguars outshot the Crusaders 13-12 and held a 6-4 advantage in shots on goal, but the Crusaders managed to convert two of their four shots into goals in the second half.
The Jaguars will be right back in action Saturday when they face the University of Mobile in a 7:30 p.m. patch.
