The University of Houston-Victoria men’s and women’s golf
teams could be playing for three championships within a matter of weeks of each
The Jaguars will hit the links Sunday and Monday in
Bremerton, Wash., for the annual Association of Independent Institutions Conference
Golf Championships at Wolf Mountain Golf Club for a chance to advance to the
NAIA National golf Championships. The men’s national championship will be May
13-16 in Daytona Beach, Fla., while the women’s championships will be held May
20-23 in Lincoln, Neb.
In between those events, the Jaguars will have an
opportunity to participate in the 28th PGA Minority Collegiate Golf
Championships at the PGA Golf Club in Port St. Lucie, Fla. That event is
scheduled for May 8-11.
The event will include a mandatory business of golf
careers expo as well as an opportunity for players to take the PGA Playing
Ability Test to be eligible for the PGA Professional Golf Management Program.
The UHV men will participate in the NAIA Division with teams
that include Edward Waters College and Talladega College.
The UHV women will participate in the women’s college
division against Bethune-Cookman University, Chicago State University, Delaware
State University, Hampton University, Lincoln University, Texas
A&M-International University and Texas Southern University.
