University of Houston-Victoria freshman Heather Shake
will have a morning tee time for the first round of the 2014 NAIA Women’s Golf
The 20th annual event will be held at the Wilderness
Ridge Golf Course in Lincoln, Neb., from May 20-23.
Shake, who won the Association of Independent
Institutions Conference individual championship to become the first UHV women’s
golfer to qualify for the national tournament, will tee off at 9:30 a.m. off
No. 10 in the opening round on May 20. She is set to go off tee no. 1at 3 p.m.
for the second round.
Shake,, who won the A.I.I. Conference title with a
75-74-149, will be paired with Westminster’s Brandi Bork and Lindsey Wilson’s
Kaitlin Allan for the first two rounds
The 144-player field consists of 18 automatic
qualifying teams, which won or finished as the runner-up in their respective
conference, independent or unaffiliated grouping tournament championship; eight
at-large selections; one host berth—Doane (Neb.); and 10 individual qualifiers.
At-large teams were determined using the final regular-season Coaches’ Top 25
Poll released Thursday.
The Jaguars dropped from No. 17 to No. 18 in the latest
poll and failed to earn an at-large berth to the national championships.
