University of Houston-Victoria’s Heather Shake was named
the NAIA Women’s Golf Player of the Week for the week of March 10-18 on
Wednesday.

Shake, a freshman from Pearland, won her first individual
title this past week at the Loyola-New Orleans Invitational in Slidell, La., as
she lead her Jaguars team to their third team title of the year.

Shake posted rounds of 74-73 for a 3-over 147 to win the
tournament by five shots over Mobile’s Heather nail.

“This is great recognition for not only Heather but for
our program,” said UHV golf coach Brian Williamson. “She’s definitely deserving
of the honor, and puts in the hard work and effort it takes to accomplish this
type of recognition.”

The tournament was just Shake’s second collegiate
tournament, but her second top-five finish in her college career. She finished
fourth in the UHV Claud Jacobs Collegiate Invitational in February where she
posted a score of 71-75-146.

At the Loyola tournament she led the field in Par 3
scoring with a 2.88 average, Par 4 scoring (4.25), Par 5 scoring (4.88) and
birdies (5). She was second in the field in pars with 25.

She currently has the Jaguars’ lowest 18-hole first round
score with her 71 at the Claud Jacobs tournament and has a 73.25 scoring
average through two events.

Shake is the first of seven Women’s Golfers of
the Week for the 2014 season.
