The University of Houston-Victoria men's golf team seemed to save the best for last Monday posting the third best final round score to move up one spot and finish ninth at the second annual UHV Claud Jacobs collegiate Invitational at Victoria Country Club.
The Jaguars posted a final-round 296 to finish at 917 in the 54-hole event after opening the day in 10th place. The Jaguars opened with round of 312-309 on Sunday.
Oklahoma City held off a late charge from Texas Wesleyan to claim the 2014 event with a two-shot victory after opening the day with a three-shot lead. OKC posted a final round 290 to finish at 880, while Texas Wesleyan turned in the best round of the day at 289 to finish at 882. Wayland Baptist finished in third place 12 shots back at 894.
Bellevue (Neb.) and Grand View finished tied for fourth at 904, while California State-San Marcos was a shot back at 905.
Nick ver Elst paced the Jaguars with a 76-76-74-226, while Vance Edwards (78-80-71), who had a final round 1-under 71, and Steven Jones (76-78-75) followed with a pair of 229s. William "Jake" Truss followed the trio with an 82-75-76-233.
Oklahoma City's Anthony Marchesnai captured the individual honors with 5-under 211 after posting rounds of 71-72-68. Texas Wesleyan's Jose Pablo-Rolz finished as the runner-up with an even-par 75-71-70-216.
