Using two key two-out rallies Monday afternoon and strong
pitching from Orlando Quiroga, the University of Houston-Victoria Jaguars
earned a spot in the Association of Independent Institutions Conference
championship game with a 4-1 win over the LSU-Alexandria Generals at Fraser
The Jaguars (23-30) will now face Georgia Gwinnett for
the championship at 3:00 p.m. Monday. The win also gives the Jaguars an automatic berth to the NAIA
Opening Round to be played May 12-15 at a site yet to be determined.
Down 1-0 in the seventh, the Jaguars finally broke
through scoring a pair of runs with key two-out hits. Matthew Herrera started
the rally with a one-our double down the left-field line. Ryan Suescun then
delivered a two-out single that scored pinch-runner Colton Cowart to tie the
game. After Dylan Blaha walked and Suescun stole third, Brandon Bohanon drove
in the go-ahead run with a single to left.
The Jaguars came right back in the eighth as Robert
Zaragoza walked and Ryan Pearsall singled. After Stephen Shorkey's grounder
forced Zaragoza at third, Robert Gleinser delivered another key two-out hit
with a double down the right-field line that scored Pearsall and Shorkey for a

tossed 7.2 innings allowing just an unearned run on four hits and no walks,
while striking out two, before giving way to closer Andre Del Bosque with two
outs in the eighth. Del Bosque came on to shut the Generals down as he allowed
just two walks while striking out four to record his 12th save of the year.
