Minneapolis, MN (SportsNetwork.com) - Minnesota Timberwolves center Nikola Pekovic is expected to be sidelined at least a week after an MRI taken Tuesday revealed bursitis in his right ankle.
Pekovic played only six minutes before exiting Monday's game against the Chicago Bulls in the first quarter due to discomfort in the ankle. The Timberwolves announced Tuesday that the 6-foot-11 Montenegro native will be held out of basketball activities for 7-to-10 days before undergoing a re- evaluation.
The 28-year-old Pekovic is in the midst of a career season, having averaged personal bests of 18.0 points and 9.1 rebounds over 44 games thus far in 2013-14.
Ronny Turiaf took over for Pekovic in Monday's game and scored a season-best 14 points to help Minnesota to a 95-86 win.
