Cleveland, OH ( - The Cleveland Indians and catcher Yan Gomes have reportedly agreed to a six-year contract extension.

Various outlets, including Fox Sports and the Cleveland Plain Dealer, said the deal is estimated to be worth about $23 million with two club options. The Plain Dealer also said the Indians might wait until the club returns for its home opener to make it official.

The Indians start the 2014 season on Monday in Oakland and will open at home on Friday against Minnesota.

Gomes appeared in 88 games for the Indians last season and hit .294 with 11 homers and 38 runs batted in. He was acquired by Cleveland from Toronto in a November 2012 trade that sent pitcher Esmil Rogers to the Blue Jays.

The 26-year-old Gomes made his big league debut for Toronto in 2012 and hit just .204 with four homers and 13 RBI in 43 games for the Blue Jays.
