Pittsburgh, PA (SportsNetwork.com) - The Pittsburgh Pirates signed a six-year contract extension with outfielder Starling Marte on Wednesday, according to a report.

The deal, which is still pending a physical, includes a pair of club options and is worth $31 million, according to Jon Heyman of CBSSports.com. The extension will begin in 2014, wiping away the $512,400 that Marte was set to make this year.

The 25-year-old Marte hit .280 with 26 doubles, 12 homers and 41 stolen bases in 135 games last season. He is considered to be one of the top defensive outfielders in the game.

Pittsburgh has already inked outfielders Andrew McCutchen and Jose Tabata to six-year extensions in recent years.
