St. Petersburg, FL (SportsNetwork.com) - The Tampa Bay Rays placed pitchers Jeremy Hellickson and Juan Carlos Oviedo and infielder Tim Beckham on the 15- day disabled list to start the season.
Hellickson is recovering from arthroscopic surgery on his right elbow. The 26- year-old has spent all four of his major league seasons with the Rays, going 39-31 with a 3.70 ERA and 409 strikeouts through 102 games (95 starts).
Oviedo, formerly Leo Nunez, is recovering Tommy John surgery on his right elbow. He has gone 18-20 with a 4.34 ERA with 288 strikeouts and 92 saves in 317 games including six starts.
The Dominican Republic native hasn't appeared in a major league game since Sept. 21, 2011 after admitting to using forged documents in order to sign a major league contract and was placed on Major League Baseball's restricted list for the remainder of that season. He played seven seasons between the Kansas City Royals and the Marlins.
Beckham has only played five major league games with the Rays and is recovering from ACL surgery on his right knee.
