Alameda, CA (SportsNetwork.com) - The Oakland Raiders released guard Mike Brisiel, who started 30 games for the team over the past two seasons, on Tuesday.

Brisiel signed a five-year, $20 million contract with the Raiders in March of 2012 and made 15 starts at right guard in each of his two seasons with the club. Oakland signed free agent Austin Howard earlier this month to take over the position, however, and make the 31-year-old veteran expendable.

Prior to joining the Raiders, Brisiel started 47-of-50 games during a five- year stint with the Houston Texans from 2007-11.

Brisiel was slated to count $5.31 million against the salary cap this season.
