Preds' Mazanec named top rookie for November

New York, NY (SportsNetwork.com) - Nashville Predators goaltender Marek Mazanec has been named the NHL's top rookie for the month of November.

Mazanec, a sixth-round pick of the Preds in 2012, posted a 5-4-1 record with a 2.00 goals-against average, .923 save percentage and two shutouts in 11 appearances during the month.

The 22-year-old netminder made his NHL debut on Nov. 8 and stopped 22 shots in a relief stint before registering his first victory with a 39-save effort against the Blackhawks on Nov. 16.

Mazanec notched his first shutout in Nashville's next game and added his second blank sheet with a 19-save performance against Columbus on Nov. 27.

Others considered for the honor were New York Rangers winger Chris Kreider, San Jose Sharks center Tomas Hertl, Los Angeles Kings center Tyler Toffoli, Colorado Avalanche center Nathan MacKinnon and Boston Bruins defenseman Torey Krug.
