Pirates ink Inge to minor league deal

Bradenton, FL (Sports Network) - The Pittsburgh Pirates have signed infielder Brandon Inge to a minor league contract with an invitation to spring training.

Inge had spent his entire career with the Detroit Tigers before being released last April 26. He signed with Oakland four days later and went on to hit .226 with 11 homers and 52 runs batted in over 74 games for the AL West champion Athletics.

The 35-year-old veteran made his big league debut with the Tigers in 2001 and has a career average of .234 with 151 homers and 641 RBI in 1,482 games. He was an American League All-Star in 2009.

Primarily a third baseman, Inge has also appeared at second base, all three outfield positions and catcher.
