Foxboro, MA ( - The New England Patriots signed cornerback Brandon Browner on Saturday.

Browner was recently reinstated from a one-year suspension by the NFL for violating the league's substance abuse policy, though he still will be forced to sit out the first four games of the 2014 campaign for the infraction.

The 29-year-old was suspended for Seattle's final five games -- including the playoffs -- of last season for multiple violations of the NFL's substance abuse policy. Browner had 19 tackles, 10 passes defended and one interception over eight games prior to his suspension.

Over four NFL seasons with the Seahawks (2011-2013) and Denver Broncos (2005), Browner has compiled 117 tackles, 39 passes defended and 10 interceptions.

Between his stints with the Broncos and Seahawks, the Oregon State product played in the CFL with the Calgary Stampeders, helping the club win the 2008 Grey Cup.

Browner is expected to join five-time Pro Bowl selection Darrelle Revis to form one of the more dynamic defensive backfields in the NFL. Revis was reportedly signed by the Pats earlier this week after he was released by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
