Panthers' Smith exits with knee injury

Charlotte, NC (SportsNetwork.com) - Carolina Panthers wide receiver Steve Smith will not return to Sunday's game against the New Orleans Saints after injuring his left knee in the first quarter.

Smith sustained the injury while failing to come down with a catch on the Panthers' second drive of the day. The 13-year veteran briefly returned in the second quarter, but left after only one play and was ruled out for the remainder of the contest shortly afterward.

The 34-year-old entered the game tied for the team lead with 63 receptions totaling 701 yards and had a 44-yard catch prior to exiting.
