Charlotte, NC (SportsNetwork.com) - Carolina Panthers defensive end Greg Hardy was arrested on two charges Tuesday.
Hardy faces misdemeanor charges of communicating threats and assault on a female, according to the Charlotte Observer.
"We are very disappointed to learn of the allegations involving Greg and are concerned for all parties as we continue to investigate," the Panthers said in a statement.
According to the paper, Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police responded to a call around 4:18 a.m. ET. A woman, who said she and Hardy had been in a relationship since September, said she had been physically assaulted and threatened by Hardy.
Hardy tied a franchise record with 15 sacks in 2013. The Panthers placed the franchise tag on him at a cost of $13.1 million this season.
The Panthers agreed recently to give Hardy as much as $1.3 million - 10 percent of his franchise tag - if he attends all of the team's voluntary offseason workouts, which are ongoing.
A sixth-round steal by the Panthers in the 2010 draft, Hardy has 33 sacks in 62 career games with Carolina.
