Jaguars Go National
We continue our special countdown of the top five local sports stories of the year. Some UHV teams made history in 2012. UHV women's golf got its first tournament win ever, and Jaguar men's and women's soccer made their conference tournaments for the first time.
UHV softball made more history and more progress in just its fifth season. The Jaguars hit the 40 win mark for the very first time, and after being in the NAIA national coaches top ten for most of the season, the Jaguars finished at number 13. That came after UHV made its second trip to the national tournament. The Jaguars were led by senior pitcher Emily Bergstrom. The El Campo native was named to the NAIA and NFCA All-America team, had 23 wins on the season and finished as the Jaguars all-time leader in five pitching categories. The Jaguars will start 2013 ranked tenth in the nation.
