Chicago, IL (SportsNetwork.com) - The Cleveland Indians made a series of transactions prior to Tuesday's game against the Chicago White Sox.

Infielder Nick Swisher and catcher/infielder Carlos Santana were placed on the disabled list. The Indians also recalled infielder Jesus Aguilar from Triple-A Columbus, selected the contract of catcher George Kottaras and designated pitcher Blake Wood for assignment.

Santana was placed on the seven-day disabled list due to concussion-like symptoms, while Swisher landed on the 15-day DL with a hyperextended left knee.

Swisher is batting .211 with 11 doubles, three homers and 19 RBI in 49 games this season. He begins just his second career stint on the DL, his first since May of 2005.

Santana, who was struck in the head by a foul tip on Sunday against Baltimore, is hitting just .159 with seven doubles, six homers and 17 RBI in 50 games this year.

Aguilar made his MLB debut earlier this month. He was hitting .286 with seven home runs and 19 RBI for Columbus at the time of his promotion.

Kottaras begins his second stint with Cleveland in 2014. He became the first player in franchise history to hit a home run in each of his first two plate appearances with the team against the White Sox on May 4.
