Atlanta, GA (SportsNetwork.com) - The Atlanta Hawks announced Tuesday that leading scorer Al Horford underwent season-ending surgery to repair a complete tear of his right pectoral muscle he sustained last week.

Horford suffered the injury during Atlanta's 127-125 double-overtime win at Cleveland last Thursday and has sat out the club's last three games.

The two-time All-Star center was averaging a career-best 18.6 points along with 8.4 rebounds and 2.6 assists in 29 games this season. Horford also leads the Hawks in rebounding, field goal percentage (.567) and blocks (1.5).

Veteran Elton Brand has taken over as Atlanta's starting center in Brand's absence.

The Hawks currently reside in third place in the Eastern Conference and trail first-place Miami by 6 1/2 games in the Southeast Division.
