As the 2013 Texas Collegiate League season draws closer every day, the Victoria
Generals continue to add players that will help them on their quest for another
league championship.
This week, the Generals have announced the addition of twin
brothers Romeo and Juan Cortina from Sam Houston State University.
“Romeo and Juan will be the first set of brothers that we’ve ever
had come play for us,” commented Blake Koch, the GM for the Victoria
Generals. “The coaching staff at Sam Houston is very high on these two young
men and believes that they both have a bright future in the game of
baseball.”
Natives of Humble, Texas, the Cortina brothers were standout
players at Atascocita High School.
Both were all-district performers, Romeo as an
outfielder, and Juan as a catcher and pitcher.
Romeo and Juan are both expected to see
significant playing time at Sam Houston this spring as true
freshmen. Sam
Houston finished as the top team in the Southland Conference last year and is
expected to do the same in 2013.
“Romeo can really swing the bat and is a projectable
middle-of-the-order type hitter,” commented Koch. “Juan is a very skilled athlete
and will see time behind the plate and on the mound in a relief role fur us
during the summer.”
